I'll remember
the moments we sank into our bellies
like the opium nectar that gave us sweetness
dripping swelling soft blown glass
fluttering floating crisp paper flowers
under the weight of stars and fancy people
under the density of their sharp intentions
and vague intensity
we looked and laughed and
disappeared into the drama of it all.

I'll remember
we escaped by hope
refugees who lost the habit of looking back
becoming lost, children, hiding
from tired words and a weary world
cursed and gnawed by hungry adults
not old enough to understand
the angst of their own ambition
deep white, smokey light, fuzzy inferno
we sank and swam under clear green blankets
heaven was inside our mosquito net
and we were caught up in its web
of soft nothingness
inside ourselves
as opium gave us a moment.
